LECTURES

There was no class on week 8th due to independent learning week.

On the 9th week, Mr. Fauzi presented to us about digital surrealism.

Realism

Takes the subject matters of the ordinary and common words which we call "reality." It almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme. There is no need to think outside of the box, as that is not "real."

Surrealism

A twist of realism. It explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality.

Surrealism defies logic. Dreams and the workings of the subconscious mind inspire surrealistic art filled with strange images and bizarre juxtapositions.

Surrealism is a cultural movement focused on types of art to express the artist's ideas themselves.

How to start creating surrealism artworks? Here are some examples:
  • Dream-like scenes and symbolic images
  • Unexpected, illogical juxtapositions
  • Bizzare assemblages of ordinary objects
  • Primitive or child-like designs
Steps on creating a surrealism artwork:
  • Sketch it out
  • Find reference images
  • "Does this look real?" (surrealism is best when it's convincing enough that it could be real)
  • Make it happen to the best of your ability
Dadaism

An anti-war art movement with artworks that is satirical and nonsensical in nature.

Photoshop makes it easier than ever to create surrealist images, requiring just a modicum of photomontage skill to produce impressive results.

INSTRUCTIONS

Continuing from last week, I had to fill up the progress for my poster design.

After receiving feedback, here are the changes to my poster:

Description

For my poster design, I focused on a topic about stress. Stress has been affecting people during the pandemic and so my title for my poster is “HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY?”. There are 3 pictures on the title, it includes, a person running, eating healthy food, and sleeping. These three actions are the ways on how to reduce stress during the pandemic. The slogan, details, and call for action are located in the information shape on the bottom right where people can read it after they look at the title. I added some effects to the title and the information shape and used different colors to show some contrast too.

FEEDBACK

Mr. Fauzi said that I can proceed with my poster but I need to make some changes to the slogan and the details because it has some spaces around there and I need to fix them.

REFLECTIONS

This week's lecture was pretty confusing for me. I had a really hard time understanding the theory. Maybe I should try to explore more on the topic and try on making artwork so that I can understand it deeper.
