LECTURES

Week 4

On week 4, Mr. Martin shared with us about Vector/Character animation. In a nutshell, he gave us a tutorial about basic transform properties which are position, scale, and rotation. Other than that, he also added a tutorial about bouncing, wiggle, and puppet position tools.

Week 5

In week 5, we were told to continue our work.

INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1: Instructable Infographics

For our first project, we are required to make an infographic poster for one recipe selected from Pasta Grannies (https://www.youtube.com/user/pastagrannies/videos). To start on making this project we all need to study one video, breakdown and chunk the preparation and cooking process into an instructable poster.

Poster size: 1240 x 1750 pixels or 2048 x 2048 pixels

Breakdown

For breakdown, I picked a video about Maria's spinach lasagna.
Youtube link: https://youtu.be/4UTrEpVKhKM

Ingredients:

  • 10 eggs
  • 1 kilo 00 flour
  • 100g fresh spinach, leaves only
  • For the ragù:
  • 2 garlic cloves, 2 to 3 sage leaves (wrapped in muslin)
  • 50g unsmoked pancetta, diced
  • 1kg minced pork (Maria uses loin)
  • 1-liter meat stock (Maria uses beef)
  • 1 x 400g tin of tomato paste
  • salt
  • 100g butter
  • 100g flour
  • 1-liter whole milk
  • 1/2 a nutmeg, grated
  • For sprinkling: 50g Parmigiano
Dough recipe:
  1. Make the dough by using 100 grams of fresh spinach (stalk removed) and add 1 kilo of 00 flour to the blender.
  2. Make a well in the flour and add 10 eggs
  3. Form the dough until it is smooth
  4. Rest the dough for 30 minutes
  5. Roll out the dough with the rolling pin until its thin
Pork ragù:
  1. Fry 50 grams of diced pancetta and 1 kilo of minced pork loin
  2. Chop 2 cloves of garlic and 2 sage leaves
  3. Wrap them in muslin and add them to the meat. This will be removed at the end of cooking
  4. Season the ragu and add beef stock until the meat is covered
  5. Add 100 grams of tomato paste
  6. Simmer for at least an hour
Béchamel sauce:
  1. Prepare a liter of full-fat milk
  2. Add 100 grams of butter, 100 grams of flour, and ½ a nutmeg (grated)
  3. to a boil
  4. Pour the milk to the boil and whisk it until the sauce is thick
Pasta:
  1. Cut pasta squares the size of a baking tray
  2. Cook them in boiling salted water for 2 minutes
  3. Cool down the pasta by flatting them
  4. Spread a thin layer of pork ragu over the base of the tray then place a pasta sheet on top
  5. Add more ragu followed by some spoons of bechamel sauce and plenty of grated Parmigiano
  6. Repeat this process until the tray is nearly full. There should be seven layers of pasta
  7. Finish the lasagna with a layer of bechamel, Parmigiano, and some butter
  8. Cut it to four pieces so that the heat goes between the sheets
  9. This goes into a moderate oven for 20 minutes
  10. Lasagna is ready
After finishing breaking down the ingredients and the recipe for the lasagna, I then start to design my poster on Illustrator. I start it off with a sketch for the poster.

Then I proceed to digitize my sketch.

Fig. 1.2 Final Instructable Infographic

I changed some of the composition of my poster and some of my drawings from the sketch.

FEEDBACK

Ms. Anis said that I can proceed to the next project with my final instructable infographic.

REFLECTIONS

During the process of making this poster, I was quite struggling on thinking about the composition for my poster. It took me a while to create the sketch. The digitization process took a long time to do because I had to make some changes on here and that. A lot of stuff were done to try on making my poster look better.
