Stylized Character Blockout
INSTRUCTIONS
Stylized Character Blockout
For this task, we
are required to utilize our character design to create a stylized character
block-out where we have to demonstrate anatomy studies applied in our digital
sculpting. Characters can be human, any form of biped creatures or hybrid, or
quadrupeds. The sculpture should capture the lister components below:
- Proportion
- Character identity and believability
- Theme
- Readable silhouette
- Identical landmarks
- Initiated style
- Muscle flow

After getting feedback, I had to make a small amendment to the hands as they were too short.
I will be using the turnaround as the guide for blocking out my characters.
During the process of making this, I used my previous knowledge to make sure that the locations of the limbs are correct and proportional. I used the shapes in Zbrush to start out the block out, shape them using the move feature, and created the body and limbs.

During this time, I am almost finished with the block out and added the horns on the head. I used the mask feature for the horns and pulled it out from the head to form the horns and shaped it with the move feature. I also used the same feature for the hands to form the fingers.
After getting feedback, I finalized my block out and made changes according to the feedback given.

For the third draft, I made the body bigger and fixed the legs to be more proportional. The hands were a bit too flat and I had to make changes to them.
SUBMISSION
FEEDBACK
- It is there but can be better
- Bicep feels a little off
- Hand is flat. Try doing it at side view. It must have a nice curve but not too curvy.
- The middle finger is always higher
- Start doing the profiling, the landscape location of mouth eyes, and others
- He likes the shape but it can be better
REFLECTIONS
This task is quite hard. I had times when I was struggling on fixing the blockout when I have a problem with the software. Took me some time to solve the problem as I have to find out the source of the problem. I still had problems with the fingers as it doesn't look that good. But I was quite satisfied with the structure of the body.
