LECTURES

For our 12th week in this module, Mr. Fauzi presented to us about Double Exposure.

What is Double Exposure Photography?

Double exposure photography refers to merging multiple images. The goal is to make them surreal, emotional, or humorous. They usually feature silhouettes. The double exposure effect may look complicated at first, but it's easy to make in-camera and in Adobe Photoshop. A double exposure camera isn't required to create a double exposure effect as there are a few other options people can create.

In an editing world, we have endless possibilities. We can transform ordinary photographs into powerful masterpieces.

Tilt-Shift effect

Photoshop has a great tilt-shift tool that will transform photos into soft works of art. To be more creative, blur one of the photos instead of the entire image, or blur everything except for one important detail.

To add this feature, go to Filter > Blur Gallery > Tilt-Shift

Create fake reflection

There are many ways to create reflections. One of them is creating a double exposure with the help of a separate window photo.

Experiment with simple portraits and details textured

Combining something plan with something complicated will give a balanced result. It will also save a lot of simple photos that we might discard.

Convert your results to black and white

A lack of color will strengthen the emotions in the double-exposure images. To express the work in a vulnerable way we can experiment with the use of black and white. It gives a unique depth and allows users to experiment with something interesting just like film photography.

Work with silhouette

We can try silhouettes of ourselves, other people, or random objects. Anything else that catches the eyes can create unique composite images.

Pick two random photo

A random process doesn't mean it's not meaningful. The results might create a story of their own, one that others will find encouraging. A lot of double exposures photography was happy accidents. But they led to great feedback and even greater executive growth. Try and forget about any other double-exposure ideas. Shooting interesting textures, shapes, and forms instead.

Make simple objects look fascinating

Take photos of everyday objects and try to make them look like something else. This technique can enhance people's imagination.

Use shadow

Outlines of any kind can be fantastic to work with for double-exposure photography. Shadows are as effective as silhouettes in this genre. We can take a picture of someone's shadow and transform it into a story. We can do anything our heart desires with outlines of this sort. All we have to do is go out, take photos of a few shadows, and turn them into something beautiful.

Photoshop: Blend Modes

Working with blend modes is almost always an experimental process. Because it's nearly impossible to predict the results, you always seem to end up experimenting with different modes and Fill Opacities until we get the results we're looking for.

INSTRUCTIONS

Continuing from last week's work, now I will be taking a picture of myself and creating a digital poster based on my sketch.

I added the black and white feature to my reflection and blurred the background so that the viewers can focus on my picture. I placed my motto on the bottom right and added a white background to my poster. I also did some color corrections to my hair and my shirt since there are some light reflections on them.

FEEDBACK

Mr. Fauzi suggested I change my motto to "Get yourself together", and proceed with sketch 1.

REFLECTIONS

The process of me making the digital poster took some time. I had to watch Youtube tutorials so that I know what I have to do for my poster. It was quite confusing at some times but eventually, I had made my poster. I feel like it is not that complete yet and maybe I will try to fix it after I get some feedback from Mr. Fauzi next week so that I can improve on my poster.
